What is the Black Bayou Basin Study?

The City of Memphis, through its Drainage Master Plan program, has selected Barge, Waggoner, Sumner & Cannon, Inc. to study, map, and develop recommendations to improve drainage in the Black Bayou Basin. The goal is to study drainage conditions throughout the basin and develop a series of recommended Capital Improvement Projects to lessen the impacts of future storms on public infrastructure and private property.

The study consists of four major tasks that are described below. As the project team moves through this process we request your patience and your input.

(Community Input)

During this process, residents and business owners can be most helpful. We need to know the impact of stormwater on your property. This information will assist us in recommending projects to correct real issues. If you have not yet submitted a copy of the survey provided at the various community meetings, please take a few minutes to take our survey now.

The University of Memphis Research Foundation is assisting the city by installing stream and rain gauges in all drainage basins being studied. These gauges will collect information over several months.
